The spa water of Orezza
Authorised by ministerial decree the 25th April 1856 and recognised as being of public interest by imperial decree of the 7th February 1866, the OREZZA spa has a fascinating history.
The qualities of this water have been appreciated since Roman times! Much later, in the 19th century, OREZZA health establishments, with their baths, showers and massages, were greatly appreciated by those seeking a cure, the thermal water being used to treat anaemia, problems of the nervous system, the liver and the kidneys and even malaria.
Belief in the miraculous healing qualities of its water became widespread.
During the second world war, the water was sent across to North Africa to restore energy and vitality to soldiers tired and strained by combat.
Today, still hidden away in the hills of one of Corsica's most beautiful regions, the Castagniccia, the spa of OREZZA has been totally renovated and restored to its past glory.
A mineral water for great health !
Slightly sparkling, pleasant to drink without any medicinal aftertaste, OREZZA water possesses genuine therapeutic properties.
Its high iron and natural carbon gas content are useful in fighting both anaemia and gastro-enteric problems.
This water improves vitality and helps digestion.
In addition, its extremely low sodium content makes it a particularly thirst-quenching water.
Treating the water
The naturally sparkling mineral water of Orezza is recognised as one of the most iron-rich mineral waters in the world. Because of this the water needs to be treated before it can be bottled.
The operation to reduce the water's iron content takes place at the Orezza plant and is based on a totally natural process : oxidisation in the air.
There are four stages in the treatment of the water :
REMOVING THE GAS
The untreated mineral water is pumped to the top of the degassing tower where it is pulverised into micro-droplets, in order to facilitate the separation of water and gas. The water is then operated upon with a vacuum pump to extract the carbon dioxide, the gas being stored for use later.
OXIDISING THE IRON
The degassed water then arrives in a tank where it is mixed with sterile compressed air before passing into the oxidising tower, allowing the iron to be separated out.
FILTERING
The water is next passed through sand filters to remove the solidified iron.
PUTTING THE GAS BACK IN
The water is finally re-carbonated with the carbon dioxide previously taken out. This occurs at the bottling stage.
Bottling
A new industrial complex, conforming to the strictest European standards, has been built to ensure the production of a water of the highest quality.
Our laboratory samples and analyses the water every hour to guarantee the quality of our water.
Contact
Already distributed throughout Corsica, this natural wonder is continuing its development at international level, becoming an invited guest at all the best tables.
